What is Close Captioning?

Closed captions are a feature of automatically generated subtitles that display on a user-selected and uploaded video. Closed Captions make your videos more accessible and inclusive by allowing users to read or listen to content. This is not only helpful for people who are deaf or hard of hearing but also for users who watch videos with the sound off.

Supported Devices:

The feature is designed for mobile devices (iOS and Android) and should work correctly on any iOS devices starting from iPhone 5s and iOS 13 and Android OS v.7:

  • iOS Devices: iPhone 5s and later

  • Android Devices: Samsung Galaxy S9+, Samsung Galaxy S7, Samsung Galaxy A8, Samsung Galaxy A5, Meizu Pro 7 Plus, Xiaomi Redmi Go, Xiaomi Mi8 Lite, Xiaomi Mi 5S, Huawei P10, Google Pixel 2

Recognized languages for close captioning:

  • English

  • Mandarin

List of fonts available for captions [iOS]:

  • Baskerville

  • Courier

  • Palatino

  • Noteworthy

  • Papyrus

  • Sinhala

  • Menlo

Enabling Close Captioning:

  1. Within your GETTR App, click the (+) icon and select GTok.

  2. Record your video and press "Next."

  3. You'll have the options to Rotate, Split, Trim, or Delete your recorded video before moving on.

  4. When you're ready to move on, select the (Check Mark).

  5. Note the option for "CC" (Captions), select this button.

  6. Creating auto captions will load, and you'll have the option to select a Language (English or Mandarin).

  7. Once the captions and video load, you'll have a preview of your recorded video with the captions over it.

  8. Before moving on, you have (3) options which are to edit the captions, choose a font, or delete your captions.

  9. If ready to move forward, select the (Check Mark), you'll have more options to add more text along with the captions.

  10. Once you're done, select the (Check Mark) and then press the Next button. All set!

Closed Captioning Features:

  1. Edit Close Captions:

    1. Record your video and press "Next."

    2. Select the (Check Mark) > Note the option for "CC" (Captions), select this button.

    3. Once the captions and video load, you'll have a preview of your recorded video with the captions over it.

    4. Edit your captions by selecting the "pencil icon" = Captions editing page.

    5. You'll have the option to edit the text of your close captioning > Select the (Check Mark) once done and you'll be directed back to the original close captioning page.

    6. Once ready to move forward, select the (Check Mark) again, and you'll have more options to add more text along with the captions.

    7. When editing is complete, select the (Check Mark) and then press the Next button. All set!

  2. Fonts:

    1. Record your video and press "Next."

    2. Select the (Check Mark) > Note the option for "CC" (Captions), select this button.

    3. Once the captions and video load, you'll have a preview of your recorded video with the captions over it.

    4. Edit your font by selecting the "A" icon:

      • "Aa" allows you to choose your font style.

      • "Rainbow wheel" allows you to choose the color of your font.

      • "T" allows you to frame your font with a block backdrop.

      • "Text alignment symbol" allows you to set the position of your font (left, center, or right).

    5. Select the (Check Mark) once done, and you'll be directed back to the original close captioning page.

    6. Once ready to move forward, select the (Check Mark) again, and you'll have more options to add more text along with the captions.

    7. When editing is complete, select the (Check Mark) and then press the Next button. All set!

  3. Delete:

    1. Record your video and press "Next."

    2. Select the (Check Mark) > Note the option for "CC" (Captions), select this button.

    3. Once the captions and video load, you'll have a preview of your recorded video with the captions over it.

    4. Delete your captions by selecting the "Trash" icon.

    5. You'll be prompted to confirm you'd like to "Delete captions?". Select "Keep" or "Delete."

    6. By selecting "Delete," you'll be brought back to the page that displays your recorded video with all of the available features (Stickers, Text, Captions, Effects, Mask, Music, Time, and Filters).
